Whiplash and Auto Accidents

Whiplash occurs when the head is jilted back and forth too fast. It can stretch and tear your muscles, and even affect the nerves in your neck. You will typically experience neck pain sometime after the accident, and it can worsen over time.

It can result from a car accident, sports, or even a work injury. You may experience headaches, burning pain, and tingling sensation. In severe cases, disc damage may occur which can result in sharp pain radiating to arms, hands, and fingers.

Additional Auto Accident Conditions

Apart from whiplash, accidents can lead to other injuries as well. Symptoms of whiplash or any other injury should be promptly reported to your chiropractor or physician. Some common symptoms following auto accidents are:
  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Shoulder pain
  • Tension
  • Pain between the shoulder blades
  • Heaviness in the head
  • Anxiety
  • Low back pain
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Radiating pain upper limb
  • Sensitivity to noise
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Blurred vision
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Dizziness
  • Forgetfulness
  • Buzzing in ears
  • Pain in the jaw or face
Among the elderly, pain and decreased range of motion is common due to degenerative diseases. Frozen shoulder is also a common problem characterizing severe pain and reduced range of motion due to inflamed shoulder joint capsule.

Available Treatments for Chronic Pains

Chronic body pains may become debilitating if not treated over time. Body pains are often treated by many conventional methods such as:
  • Stretching
  • Ultrasound
  • Heat
  • Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS)
  • Exercises
  • Non-specific soft tissue work
  • Surgery
These techniques may not always work on the problem areas, and hence cannot guarantee a quick recovery. Surgery is often the last option with drawbacks including scar tissue formation, prolonged rehabilitation, and readaptation.

How Does a Chiropractor Help You?

Chiropractic care is aimed at reversing the sprain or strain on the affected muscle group or joints. When you come to a chiropractor, you undergo a proper diagnosis and treatment plan which typically involves:
  • Physical evaluation
  • Documenting injuries
  • X-rays (if indicated)
  • In case of severe pain, urgent care is recommended
Chiropractic treatment is orthopedic based and is aimed to normalize the body's mechanical functions using joint adjusting, massage, electrical stimulation, muscle stretching, traction, and more. Call us today to learn more.
