What Do You Know About Chiropractic History?

The oldest writings on chiropractic care date back to 2700 B.C. and 1500 B.C. These Chinese and Greek writings mention spinal manipulation and the maneuvering of the lower extremities to ease lower back pain.

The practice of spinal manipulation began gaining momentum in the late 19th century. In the 20th century, chiropractors gained legal recognition in all 50 states. Today chiropractors have become pioneers in the field of non-invasive care promoting a scientific approach to a number of ailments. Contact  Dr. David E. Robinson for more information!

Doctors of Chiropractic and Their Education

Chiropractors are considered physicians in the majority of the states, and under Medicare as well. The professional credentials for a chiropractor (DC) refer to Doctor of Chiropractic.

Chiropractic education spans both the basic and clinical sciences and the related health subjects. It requires four to five years at an accredited chiropractic college with a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience.

Passing the national board exam is mandatory, and so is for all exams for the state where the individual wishes to practice. Individual state licensing is also an important requirement.

Understanding Chiropractic Philosophy

Chiropractic care is based on natural and conservative methods of health care. Experienced chiropractors trust the body’s ability to heal itself. The structure and function of the spine and its effects on other bodily systems are closely analyzed.

Chiropractic professionals closely study the role played by these systems in the preservation and restoration of health. Chiropractors work for the treatment and prevention of diseases, as well as the promotion of public health.

Scope of Practice for Chiropractors

Doctors of chiropractic treat individuals with neuromusculoskeletal complaints. These include headaches, joint pain, neck pain, low back pain, and sciatica. They also treat patients with osteoarthritis, spinal disk conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, sprains, and strains.

Chiropractors can treat a variety of non-neuromusculoskeletal conditions like allergies, asthma, digestive disorders, otitis media, and more. With advancing technology, more possibilities are opening up in the field of chiropractic care.
